Bhagya Abhivrudhi Seva Samsthe (BASS) is a Karnataka-based organization working in nine districts of North Karnataka since 1998. It was started by a group of young people with a vision for the social, economic, and political growth of Karnataka, drawing from their experience of working with communities in the most deprived and vulnerable areas of the state. BASS is committed to creating a violence-free society based on equity, justice, and peace. They collaborate with youth and adolescents to address gender-based violence by enlisting their help as volunteers or agents of change. BASS creates platforms for youth to voice their opinions and integrate their needs into the social development process.
An integrated approach to build a equitable and empowered society
OUR VISION
To create a violence-free society based on equity, justice, and peace, ensuring physical and mental freedom for all, regardless of caste, class, or gender.
OUR MISSION
Empower youth to voice their opinions and integrate them into social development, fostering meaningful community participation and sustainable development opportunities.
BASS believes that engaging men and boys alongside girls and women to combat gender-based violence is a significant achievement. Through the 'Youth for Equality' initiative, BASS promotes equal and positive gender roles among men (parents, teachers, husbands, in-laws, and influential male figures) and boys (brothers, sons). Participants are encouraged to identify structural discrimination, challenge power dynamics, and reflect critically on their perceptions of gender roles and inequalities. They actively participate in programs, meetings, and discussions, creating spaces to address social issues like child marriage, disrespect towards women, and violations of freedom. Through training and education, these participants are equipped to act as role models and agents of change within their communities, contributing to inclusive societies and reshaping social norms in families, schools, and communities.
BASS believes in the essential role of women in nation-building and development, emphasizing their empowerment through education and awareness. Regular meetings, workshops, camps, and training sessions sensitively address issues such as physical violence, education, livelihood, and health for women in Mahagaon Cross and Katoli blocks. In 2019-2020, 446 women's meetings engaged 3,882 participants, addressing issues like PDS, water scarcity, and alcohol shops. Block-level meetings with young married girls highlighted challenges including early marriages and rights violations, fostering empowerment and awareness. Empowerment workshops on social issues like child marriage and domestic violence have engaged communities and encouraged mutual support among girls, boys, men, and women for collective change and inclusivity.
Our NGO provides a night shelter for women in Gulbarga, offering a safe and supportive environment. This initiative ensures that vulnerable women have access to temporary accommodation, basic amenities, and emotional support, promoting their well-being and security.
